Looking out from within

I have been working on this theme for many years and delighted to have been chosen in a competition to exhibit two pieces along with a variety of artists organised by ‘Influence Gallery’ & ‘Hotel de Rougemont & Spa’ in Gstaad, Switzerland.

The two sculptures will be produced life size in Stainless steel, 2m by 150cm and will  be exhibited in at Hotel de Rougemont & Spa in Gstaad, Switzerland until 31st October 2025

The outdoor sculptures can be commissioned and constructed from dimensions of your choice.

They have been designed to be placed in areas to interact within and enjoy, walking and sitting amongst them as they intertwine with nature and man-made structures.

They have been designed to be situated within a wide variety of surroundings, whether this would be Schools, Hospices, Hospital gardens, Well-being areas, private gardens, public areas etc.

I have so far produced a series of 5 metal prototypes within the theme of the spiral, these organic sculptures have been constructed sympathetically using a variety of materials, the chosen material I have been mainly using to portray the meaning of the pieces for this series is stainless steel.

The series of sculptures are called ‘Looking out from within’.

The sculptures are inspired by the Spiral, a positive symbol of which is frequently featured in many Earth-based spiritual traditions, both ancient and modern. Symbolising energy flowing out into the universe and dissipating and/or energy coming together and taking a new form in one’s life. The Spiral can guide, meditate, intertwine with the surroundings, nature, and the landscape.  The surroundings would reflect within the form as well as reflecting the seasons interacting with it each day and night.

To construct this form, I experimented with the use of the continuous line, using metal, cutting into it, producing a flexible structure, creating a spiral form by twisting, bending, pushing its flexibility, interlocking it and warping it into an organic form.

The spiral also represents our never-ending journey of knowledge. With each idea we learn, we grow both on a physical level (learning increases brain functions after all) and on a spiritual level. When we overcome an obstacle, we grow. But we grow from the process, not the actual goal. It is the journey that makes us who we are, not the results.
